Pipeline approaches 100 new homes in five years

August 31, 2008 - The real estate development department at Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco is hard at work building a strong pipeline of new developments. Over the next five years, nearly 100 homes are planned in partnership with hardworking families in Marin, San Francisco, and the Peninsula! This fall, construction will begin on seven homes on Whitney Young Circle in San Francisco's Bayview community. These homes, built in a traditionally underserved neighborhood, will be constructed with sustainability and accessibility in mind. Two of the homes will include Universal Design features, thereby making the homes accessible to individuals with permanent mobility impairments. Additionally, the homes will include photovoltaic solar panels which will significantly lower the homeowners' utility costs while reducing their dependence on fossil fuels. Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco will also construct the homes using sustainable materials such as fly-ash concrete, low VOC paint and carpet and engineered lumber.

In 2010, Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco will break ground on its largest development-a 36-unit condominium development on Mission Street in Daly City. The Mission Street condominiums, located along a transportation corridor, will be constructed on a podium using green building principles. In keeping with the organization's commitment to building accessible homes, all 36 units will include Universal Design features with adaptability for wheelchair access.
