Own a Home
GIVING FAMILIES A CHANCE AT THE AMERICAN DREAM
Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco provides a hand-up, not a hand-out. We select local households earning between 40 and 60 percent of the Area Median Income to partner with us as homeowners.
Applicants for homeownership go through a selection process very similar to obtaining a mortgage from a traditional bank, including a review of their financial status, job history, residency and other qualifications. Applicants must meet our income guidelines, have reasonable credit histories, a manageable level of debt and be willing and able to perform 500 hours of "sweat equity" to build their own homes. The selection process, building of the home and sweat equity all together can take up to 18 months.
Habitat's homeowners are our partners in building strong communities. The Habitat homeownership program offers people like nurses, postal workers, teachers and retail workers the opportunity to live in and invest in their community. Together we work to combat the Bay Area's housing crises with zero-interest, zero down payment homes priced at affordable levels for sustainable, long-term homeownership.
