Are you ready for Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco’s next Building Blocks event? We’re heading back to San Francisco’s Bayview to revitalize a neighborhood in just three days!
The event will kick-off on Thursday, Oct. 20 and will go until Saturday, Oct. 22. We will be making critical safety and accessibility repairs to three Bayview homes. We will also help repair Martha Hills Learning Center, a community preschool and infant center. Volunteers will make repairs to the learning center and also build large planter boxes for the center to start its first community gardening program!
At the last Building Blocks: Bayview event, volunteers were able to accomplish the following:
- Built more than 200 feet of fencing
- Removed a dozen truckloads of debris
- Added 30 gallons of fresh exterior paint to homes
- Contributed to addressing safety and accessibility home repairs to six Bayview homeowners
Meet longtime Bayview homeowners Ron and his partner, Jacques, who were one of the homeowners from the last Building Blocks event. They have lived in their Palou home since 1997 and once enjoyed stunning vistas and sunny weather from their immaculately kept garden. Before Building Blocks, Ron and Jacques felt unsafe using the two sets of stairs that allowed them access to their backyard. They also could not open their windows, which made the sunny home uncomfortably warm.
Ron said that, “…this is the most help I’ve ever got in my life, and there is just no way I could have afforded to do all of these repairs on a fixed income.”
Volunteer callout: We’re looking for volunteers for our upcoming Building Blocks event on Thursday, Oct. 20th through Saturday, Oct. 22nd! If you’re interested, please visit our volunteer page to learn more.
