Love is in the air at Habitat Greater San Francisco! Two of our former AmeriCorps, Melissa and Ryan, recently took a trip down memory lane and volunteered with us to find a happily forever ending to their story.

Melissa and Ryan first met in 2011 while they were in AmeriCorps working together on a construction site at Habitat Greater San Francisco. A frienship formed as Ryan, who had been with Habitat a year prior, helped Melissa fine-tune her construction skills.
After their AmeriCorps terms ended, Melissa went on to do international development work abroad, while Ryan stayed in the Bay Area. In 2013, Melissa returned home, and the duo started dating.
Flash forward to this past December and Ryan insisted that he and Melissa volunteer as crew leaders at our Novato-based development, Mt. Burdell Place. During a water break, Ryan asked Melissa to check out a finished home on-site. To Melissa’s surprise, she found Ryan, down on one knee, where he proposed with a wooden ring box that he made himself!
Melissa and Ryan are planning a large wedding in Lake Tahoe this September. When they’re not wedding planning, they spend their time working and using their AmeriCorps construction experience to rebuild a home in Pacifica together.
Habitat Greater San Francisco has remained an important part of their lives even years after their service. We’re so grateful for Melissa and Ryan’s service and wish them the best in the future!
