Owning a home leads to stability and opportunity for families
At Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco, we recognize that many of the same benefits come from keeping existing homeowners in their homes. Our Home Repair program is part of our Neighborhood Revitalization efforts. We provide critical home repairs to help long-time, low-income homeowners maintain the legacy of homeownership for their families.
Our Home Repair program helps improve the security of the homeowner's home and property, safety of the people living in the home, mobility throughout the home, weather-proofing (as well as weather resistance and energy efficiency), and functionality of the home. Past projects have included staircase, garage door, fence, deck reconstruction, siding, windows, and roofing. Recently, we expanded our program to include more critical repairs, such as roofs, new siding, and windows, allowing us to deepen our impact for long-time, low-income homeowners.
We serve three focus neighborhoods: San Francisco's Bayview neighborhood, the city of East Palo Alto, and Menlo Park's Belle Haven neighborhood.
Since 2011, over 123 homes have been repaired through our Home Repair program. We surveyed homeowners who have worked with us from the beginning, and these were our findings.
"The repairs were something we needed and couldn't afford, and our health was being affected by it. Thank you, Habitat. Keep doing what you're doing. It's wonderful, and it's a blessing." -Miss Versie, Neighborhood Revitalization Homeowner from the Bayview.
