Our homes are sold at no profit with 0 percent interest and $ 0 down payment. Approved homeowners qualify for a monthly housing payment (mortgage, property tax, insurance, HOA fee if applicable) equal to 30% of their monthly income. Since 1989, we have built more than 200 homes in San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo Counties.
Applicants must meet our income guidelines, have reasonable credit histories, a manageable level of debt and be willing and able to perform up to 500 hours of "sweat equity" to build their own homes. The entire process including the selection process, building of the home and sweat equity can take about a year.
Our selection process for interested applicants includes a review of financial status, job history, residency and other qualifications.

Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco continues to come up with new ways to build affordable homes in an unaffordable city. The available 17 Below Market Rate (BMR) homes are not traditional Habitat for Humanity homes. The BMR homes are made available through the San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development. The BMR homes located at Habitat Terrace provides first-time homeownership opportunities to families who make less than the area median income and far less than a family would need to buy a market rate home.
